Fantastic TV - stunning! September 12, 2007 David Johnson (Stockport) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is one of the best purchases i have made. Ordered from amazon and arrived within 3 days, at an outstanding price! Picture quality is fantastic - especally on freeview and with sky. I dont have blu ray so not too bothered about 1080p - but the picture is fantastic without it. My best ever purchase - highly recommended!

Bought a Sony because they are quality products and I am not disappointed by this at all. Looked at some of the cheaper manufacturers but decided if I was going to spend a large amount of money on a LCD TV I wanted it to be a decent brand.
This TV doesn't represent the highest end of the market but it is an excellent product. The sound quality is great, the picture is fantastic. It's fairly lightweight, for a 40". Set up is as easy as 1-2-3 (in fact if I hadn't bought a home cinema system to plug in at the same time I'd have been up and running in literally a couple of minutes).
The light sensor technology is great because if you switch the TV on in the dark, which I often do, you aren't completely blinded by it. It is very easy on the eyes for people who love to watch their movies in cinema darkness.
The only and very minor niggle is that I forgot to buy a HDMI cable at the same time as the TV so I can't plug in my Sky box and a separate DVD and VHS all at the same time but that is easily remedied. I suggest making sure you buy a Bravia compatible Home Cinema system at the same time, if you are looking to upgrade your DVD player at the same time, it's easy to run the sound from this TV through them, and with the intuitiveness of Sony you will only need one remote!
I really can't fault this TV. It has it all and on top it is extremely good value.
Great tv - amazing price October 1, 2007 S. Kitching (Hitchin, Herts) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Just taken delivery of this - bought from Amazon for £620, an amazing price for a 40inch Sony Bravia, which are widely regarded as the best you can get.
It works straight out of the box and all i had to do in terms of set up was plug my Sky box in and turn it on! The picture quality is amazing and thats even compared to my old 32 inch flat screen Trinitron.
My only small gripe was the delivery - Amazon processed the order in 2 days but the delivery company took a further 5 days to get it to me - this rained on my parade a bit but getting the tv and having it set up and working has restored my excitement.
Best purchase I have made in a long time, at this price its a much better deal than anything else out there.
brilliant tv October 6, 2007 anon (wales) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this tv when our other one died, and although I was very apprehensive,I couldn't have made a better choice. We looked at all the models in the shops and were only left confused by the different opinions we were given. Delivery was faultless, we had it a mere four days after ordering. The set up took mere minutes, we have no dead pixels (Thank God), the picture is brilliant and it DOES have an ON/OFF button. (many of these tv's need to be turned off at the plug or left on standby apparently) We don't have a surround system but it's not a problem. The sound on this telly is amazingly good. My husband is a musician and very fussy about this issue, but even he agrees it can't be faulted. I have since seen the same tv for sale in the high street at a much higher price!! We give it five stars and recommend it highly. Thank you Amazon for a top rate telly at a bargain price!
Regarding Watters' one star review above September 13, 2007 M. Fasken (London, England) 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
First of all, I can't vouch for this set, I haven't got one.
However, the chap above me has based his one star review on a misunderstanding.
His statement about a DVD recorder refers to a bundle Selfridges are offering (or were a couple of months ago): this Sony TV and a recorder together for £1000.
It seems clear Amazon is only offering the TV here, not a bundle, so the compatibility issue is beside the point and shouldn't affect your decision.
