Customer Reviews: Lovely Looking TV! December 14, 2007 Andrew (Belfast) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a really beautiful set and matches the glossy look of the Playstation 3, picture and sound quality is excellent (although you do have to mess about with the settings abit - turn the sharpness setting down a bit as it can make standard def pics look more grainy). If you feed this set a hi-def source it starts to look even better! The remote is really nice, you can program it to control other things and the prog and vol buttons light up! The stand also swivels round a bit so that you can change the angle of the screen. It does, however, have a tendency to attract dust around the frame/stand but it is very easy to clean with the supplied cloth. I did have problems with the first set that came (the stand was warped and it had a tendency to switch itself on, and then off again a few mins later) but this was quickly sorted out with an exchange and it wasn't enough to put me off giving this set 5 stars. Also it is very good value, as last year I spent £500 more on a 42" Samsung set (with a discount code!).

Philips 50PFP5532D loads better. February 24, 2008 Steve W (UK) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Samsung PS50Q97HDX - 50'' Widescreen HD. Bought this display and was very disappointed. Even to the point of thinking it was faulty, however, Samsung repair man came out and assessed it saying it was all ok. So, picture quality, unless you are playing HD source is rubbish, with artefacts and blocking making ordinary DVD unwatchable. Even HD source is not brilliant as it only has 720p max signal. Compared to the Philips 50PFP5532D which is about the same price there is a huge difference. The Philips has progressive scan, more natural colour, and 1080i signal giving a great picture resolution. I sent my Samsung back and got the Philips, which is 100 percent better picture, very little distortion, and as I watch a lot of old B&W movies it is a breeze with the progressive scan. I am not bothered about the sound as use separate amp and speaker surround. I think the Samsung looks a better telly but its the picture quality that counts!
