Superb TV worth Every Penny February 24, 2008 Mr. R. Enderby (Coventry, UK) 48 out of 48 found this review helpful
After looking at various makes, and reading reviews, I was torn between this 40V3000, and the more expensive W3000, but, having read a detailed technical review on hdtvtest.co.uk, there were only 2 minor differences between them.
Having plumped for the V3000, I am delighted with the sound, picture and over all performance of this TV, especially on HD. It is a brilliant detailed picture with superb sharp images. Incidentally, on the website mentioned above, the professional tester calibrated the W3000 for the best possible picture, and the settings on the website apply equally to the V3000. I can fully recommend them.
The TV was delivered in a box at my door, and left for me to install. Although not very technical, I had very few problems, although wiring up my DVD player & home cinema system, plus a VCR, and the Sky HD box took a day or two to get right.
Sony Future-proof TV. February 16, 2008 G. Musto (West Lutton, North Yorkshire) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
I recently bought this television having had to replace my old 28 inch widescreen tv. Digital pictures are stunning and DVD just as good. We did our research and compared screens - the Sony had the best picture by far. Normal sound is better than some reviews but I have a Sony 5.1 system. If you can, get the Bravia Theatre compatible surround system. Have not got any HD or Blue Ray devices yet but looking to upgrade to Sky HD soon. If you want a quality picture that will last a few years this is the one to go for. Easy to set up and, unlike some HD Tvs will actually auto change to sky. Two very minor quibbles - seems to take a while (ok 2 seconds) to change channels and its now £100 cheaper than I paid three weeks ago.
Buy It.
Sony with style May 7, 2008 I. D. Watson (UK) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I bought this Sony HDTV to replace a faithful old Trinitron, hoping that a full 1080p HDTV with built-in Freeview tuner should be future proof for the next few years at least. The Sony definitely stood out from the competing brands in terms of overall picture quality when checking out the HDTVs in the shops.
After the initial TV setup the picture seemed too bright and unnatural but I found that the factory default picture setting was set to 'vivid' combined with 'warm 1' colour temperature and when this was altered to 'standard' with 'neutral' and the backlight intensity was reduced then all the usual Sony picture qualities came shining through. Unfortunately, setting up a TV is no longer just a matter of plugging in an aerial and tuning in. Each input on the Sony can be individually calibrated and with three HDMI sockets and two scart sockets there is plenty of potential for fine tuning! Even the HDMI inputs need to be set to 'full pixel' to ensure a full 1080p display.
Now it is tweaked, I have tried it out on a variety of sources including full 1080p HD from a PS3 - the colours are as rich and the picture as sharp as expected, but even standard Freeview material and DVDs seem so much better and clearer on the huge screen - which does look like the monolith from '2001' when it is switched off. Highly recommended, particularly if you enjoy watching films and have a 1080p upscaling player to make the most of standard DVDs.
Great for HD beware SD January 11, 2008 Mr. M. P. Williams (Essex) 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
This a great TV for PS3 and Bluray stunning picture quality and usual sony quality build. However I will recommend caution if you are only using this for SD viewing the picture quality is not as great as my Hitachi 32 inch LCD probably due to the fact of the larger screen. Some channels fare better than others on my sky + box. Will probably upgrade to sky hd now to get full benefit. With that in mind and the fact that there is no swivel on the stand I will give this 4 stars but would be five if Hd only. Please also be aware that the home delivery network do not deliver weekends despite amazon saying they do.
