5 out of 5 stars King of Pop, Essential, Number Ones....   July 3, 2009

Ok so there are 3 Michael Jackson Greatest Hits collections to have hit shelves in the past few years since his final album Invincible. But which is the best. All 3 are brilliant albums, no doubt there, but here's the lowdown.

Number ones features 18 tracks in chronological order hand picked by MJ himself, it also has the newest MJ single available (2003's One More Chance) on the negative side it includes too many tracks from 1987's Bad album whilst almost ignoring Dangerous which is solely represented by Black & White. Oddly it also includes break of dawn, an album track from Invincible yet omits other well known songs.

Essential is the only one of these albums to feature Jackson 5 and early MJ tracks (again in chronological order, 1969's I want you back to 2001's you rock my world) with 38 tracks on offer this is more for the dedicated fan, not a casual listener.

King of Pop was a celebration of MJ's 50th birthday with 17 tracks chosen by the public, the songs are shuffled which gives it that "variety" and features tracks from all 6 of MJ's Sony albums. There aren't really any "fillers" here, this is probably the best of the three if you're looking for Jackson's better known songs.

5 out of 5 stars Yes it's another compilation album..   August 23, 2008

Ok so it's yet another greatest hits album from the King of Pop.
Putting this fact to one side however, the album gains 5 stars for the sheer musical brilliance contained within.

If ever there was a compilation of Jacksons greatest songs: this is it.
For those who want an all-in-one great Michael Jackson CD that they can stick in the car or in the CD player at a party, they've struck gold with King of Pop.
I like to think the younger generation or the Jackson novice will pick this up in music stores and be enlightened by Michaels musical brilliance (and lets face it, it wouldn't be difficult to convert them into fans considering the music that's around currently is tripe in comparison).

I agree with other reviewers aswell when they say that the cover is a disappointment - especially when you compare it to his previous albums (remember what 'Dangerous' looked like!?)
It comes across as a contrived money making scheme on Sonys part - but that doesn't take away the fact that King of Pop really does contain some of Michaels greatest ever hits.

The albumns redeeming and unique factor is that the fans voted for the track listing - making King of Pop a more intimate collaboration between the fans and the artist.
If you're a die hard fan like I am, my advice would be to buy it.
If you're looking for a good Michael Jackson album - my advice would be to buy it!
But do take a look at The essential Michael Jackson too - this is a brilliant collection of songs that one should incorporate into any collection.

4 out of 5 stars What's this, His 17th Compilation???   August 13, 2008

Even though this is probabbly 3 compilations too many from Mr Jackson i have to say this has one of the better tracklistings.

I'm so glad Scream is on, and You Rock my World, and well, basically all of them are hahaha. The only real disappointments are the fact Blood on the Dancefloor and my personal face Jam aren't on :( But i support the CD isn't big enough for all of them.

Still a great album though, and even though everybody owns these tracks it'll still be a great seller!

It still isn't a new studio album though is it...... Come on Michael!

5 out of 5 stars We still love you Michael   March 12, 2009

I still love Michael Jackson and enjoyed this complilation immensely-it's just that feeling of going back in time to the 80's when Michael was the King of Pop. The beats, the tunes, the aggression, the pain that is in Michael's songs is legendary and unique, and I guess some people may think we don't need another Michael Jackson compilation, but I think this is a pretty good one and Michael is a legend. I feel that he has so many classic hits, that he is entitled to have a number of complilations.
