Great TV shame about the EPG January 20, 2009 Mr. Nicholas A. Best (Frome, Somerset United Kingdom) 70 out of 71 found this review helpful
This is a great TV, in my view let down by one thing. Lets take a look at the good points:
- Great picture
- Easy to use
- Simple, good looking remote
- Loads of ports (most of which I'll never use)
- Great looking TV
- Simple cabling at the back which neatly tucks away (avoiding the mess I used to have stuck on the wall with my old Wharfdale LCD TV, which required an external power adapter)
In fact, I bought this TV because I'd been so pleased with a Panasonic 42" Plasma which I bought last year. However, in the last year, one key thing has changed. The Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), which is fantastic on the 42" Plasma, has now been changed so that there are adverts taking up a third of the screen. On a small 19" screen this means the programme data is cramped into a much smaller area meaning you can see fewer programmes at any one go. For me, given that you are paying a premium for a panasonic above other makes (justified in every other respect), I object to having adverts forcibly thrust at me every time I look at the programme guide. Panasonic tell me there is no way to turn these off.
If you don't mind my frustrations over ads, or don't use the EPG, then this is an excellent TV. For me, though this feature, lets it down, particularly as the previous Pansonic EPG without ads used to be so good.

Panasonic TX-19LXD8 - 19" Viera LCD TV
Great TV, excellent picture, easy to use menus, great sound, can be tilted on the stand. No bad points that I've found. The 5000:1 contrast ratio holds it apart from other 19in LCD TVs.
Superb Vaule TV January 25, 2009 S. Ward (UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this set to replace a 20 inch Toshiba that was only a couple of years old. The Toshiba had a contrast ratio of 600:1 which was pretty good at the time - my, we've come along way in 24 months - this Panasonic boasts a ratio of 5000:1 in comparision! I must say, there is a big difference between this set and my old tv - most notably the fact that the blacks are pretty much black - as opposed to the Toshiba (and many older and / inferior made LCD television sets) in which blacks looked more like a washed out grey. This set is very straight forward to set up - to improve the picture quality there are noise reduction filters and sharpness controls - i've found these very useful when viewing a PVR freeview box through the set. Negative points? well..... there is only one scart socket, which some may find a problem and the set doesn't come with a swivel based stand. Otherwise an excellent set and very good value considering rrp is in the region of £400+
Great little TV February 15, 2009 Mr. C. Marriott (Surrey, UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I had the opportunity to compare this side-by-side with the Sony 19L4000, and this is definitely the better of the two. The colours are sharper and brighter and the sound is better (although you only get 1 SCART on the Panasonic). You get some blurred edges at times, particularly with a weaker Freeview signal but I think that's normal for this "entry-level" type of TV. It's at the higher end of the 19" LCD price bracket, but I think it's well worth spending that bit extra.
Great LCD TV with excellent picture. January 18, 2009 A. Davis (London, UK) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought one of these yesterday for my dad, and as its only a small set I did not have high expectations, I was wrong and its very good!
The contrast levels are good for a small set with bright clear colours and good details in the black/dark areas.
Even the sound for a small set is good.
The menu's are very easy to use and the guide works well.
The screen resolution is excellent, and provides a pleasant viewing experience.
Overall this is a set I'd recommend to anyone looking for a small LCD TV.
