4 out of 5 stars Cool Kit   December 18, 2005

The previous reviews nearly put me off from buying one but a bit of reserach convinced me that this is a cool piece of kit. And thankfully it is. I really don't understand the complaint about the lack of functionality from the previous reviewer - it is a programmable remote with macros. You can make it to virtually anything you want. For example, I have programme it to turn on my the television, freeview and amp all at once, select the right inputs etc etc. All with one button. The whole process took less than 2 minutes.

On the other hand if you expect it to come with lot presets, then don't bother. It doesn't but learning is fast and easy.

In summary it is as good as it gets at this price. So why only 4 stars? In my view £99 is still a lot of money for what in essence is just a remote but compare to the Philips though, the Sony is fantastics value.

A good unit although not a pronto! The things you take for granted with a pronto are not there ...for example you cant re-lable buttons or delete buttons, and the touch screen does not light up on touch, it has to be turned on manualy. Also it's not a one handed operation because of the size of the unit which although a pain is something you get used to.

But after use you find things are in the wrong place.
Why put the fast forward button next to the off button, you know what happens ...it switches its self off and often!!!! as you fast forward.

The touch board has a mind of its own. You can press a button next minute the sat goes off when you are no where near the off button. If you could just re-assign the buttons and move certain ones life would be a whole lot better.

marks out of ten 6, reliable, well made but a pain!

This is my first universal remote control ever, and I am not disappointed. I decided that I was fed up with all the remote controls for the home entertainment cluttering up the coffee table, so I looked around the web, read a few reviews and choose this model. At first I was a bit cautious because of the poor Amazon reviews, but they should not be taken into account.

This remote comes with LOADS of product codes for every component and manufacturer you could want. There were a few devices I have that didn't have included codes, but using the 'learning' function, and the old remotes I quickly programmed them all in. The remote is dead easy to operate, and very logical, it took me about 5-7 minutes to program in all my devices.

The backlight is acceptably bright, and the touchscreen is very responsive, the remote also lets you program certain 'hard buttons', and in addition you can set some buttons to control a particular device regardless of what you have selected. So for me the volume controls only changes the amplifier, even when I have the TV or Cable selected.

The remote is a confortable size, and the bottom is contoured to balance on an armrest, sofa arm, or armchair.

Overal a great buy, would recommend to anyone, is the perfect accompanyment to any home entertainment system.
