4 out of 5 stars a breeze   March 4, 2009

I've had this pvr a few months now and it's the best I've had, take it from me I've had a few!!!!

it's easy to use, the hard drive is whisper quiet and was up and running withing 5 minutes of getting it out of the box. you can record two chanels at once, record one and watch another or record two channels and watch a recorded programe at the same time.

the only problem I had was with the series record, changed from 14 day epg to 8 day epg, problem solved!

2 out of 5 stars Cheap for a reason   January 11, 2009

This DVR is cheap for a reason. While it does the basics well, it struggles with the more useful functions of a DVR such as simple series recording.

I live in a marginal reception area for Digital TV and my benchmark for the TUTV2500 is the BT Vision box I already have.

Setup is easy and documentation the best I've seen for any consumer product. The remote is function packed but well labelled. As with all remotes for consumer electronics it tries to do too much and so is overly complicated -- but no worse than others.

The TUTV2500 comes with a month's free Top-TV -- but the software failed to download during the setup process (presumably because of marginal signal strength).

The Electronic Programme Guide loaded normally but series recording depends on the Luxor box detecting tags added to programmes by the broadcaster. If it doesn't detect this then no series recording -- which is to my mind a huge disadvantage and makes the TUTV2500 virtually useless. Other DVRs I've used, such as the BTVision box, do this effortlessly.

The TUTV2500 comes with two SCART connectors but no HDMI. The power lead is integral to the box rather than separate, which makes wiring through cabinets tricky since you need a hole big enough for a three pin plug rather than the usual power lead connector that's standard on most TV accessories these days.

So if you're looking for a cheap DVR to record single programmes then the TUTV2500 is fine. But it you want something with all the bells and whistles I don't think you'll find it at this price.

I'm returning mine to the store I bought it from tomorrow.

After suffering a Thomson Digi box which froze constantly what a pleasure it is to just sit & watch & know I'll see a programme to the end. Very easy to set up and operate & despite the description saying it may be scratched as it was refurbished was like brand new.
